The ongoing construction of the Western Kisumu-Kitale by-pass has caused sleepless nights to the residents of Shirere Ward, Lurambi Sub-County in Kakamega County.
Initial drainage systems have been tampered with and blocked leading to floods during the heavy down pour experienced is being experienced in the region.
Some residents have been rendered homeless and weathered roads have become impassable due to surface run-offs after heavy rains.
The Assembly committee on Environment, Water and Natural Resources under the leadership of Hon. Swaka Limera who is also the Member of County Assembly (MCA) representing Kisa North, visited residents Shirere and Shirere Wards to assess the havoc caused by the floods.
The steepy landscape has experienced landslides as a result of floods thus posing a danger to the residents with children being the most vulnerable.
Committee members assured residents that the relevant ministry and stakeholders will be engaged to ensure that the situation is normalized in a period of 2 weeks.
