Assembly enacts law to govern County Dairy Corporation


Kakamega County Assembly has enacted a law to enable the County Executive establish a dairy development corporation, which will manage and promote dairy farming in the County.

Members of the Assembly (MCAs) debated on the Kakamega County Dairy Development Bill, 2017 during its second and third reading and unanimously approved it saying it will improve food security and the basis to promote quality dairy farming in the County. This law will ensure the County has a legal framework for dairy value chain development, a dairy corporation to develop and maintain a milk processing plant in the County, engage in the commercial rearing and breeding of dairy livestock, provide advisory services to stakeholders of dairy farming, facilitate and negotiate concessions for dairy farm inputs among other functions. The dairy corporation shall be managed by a board with a non – executive Chairperson appointed by the Governor.
