Kakamega County Assembly committee on Appointments has vetted the nominee for the position of Secretary/CEO of the Kakamega County Government Public Service Board (CPSB), Ms Catherine Gathoni Otenyo.
Ms Otenyo has a wide academic background with a PHD in Finance having worked for Nakuru County Government and several public institutions in different capacities.
“I have relevant skills having worked in the public service for more than 20 years,” she told the committee during the vetting.
The position fell vacant after the term of the previous holder came to an end last year.
The committee chaired by the Speaker, Hon. Morris Buluma vetted the nominee to establish her suitability for the job.
She told the committee that she has vast experience on public affairs, governance and finance, which gives her competence to take up the position.
Credentials of the nominee were forwarded to the Assembly by the Public Service and County Administration ministry after a rigorous interview.
The committee now proceeds to write a report that will be tabled in the House for deliberation.
The board has several functions including establishing and abolishing offices in the county public service, appointing persons to hold or act in offices, exercising disciplinary control over, and removal of persons holding or acting in public service offices, prepare regular reports for submission to the county assembly on the execution of the functions of the board, promote in the county public service the values on good public governance, advise county government on human resource management and development.
