Members of the Kakamega County Assembly Water, Environment and Natural Resources committee on Tuesday joined hands with the rest of the World to celebrate the World Environment Day.
The theme for this year is : “Beat Plastic Pollution”.
In Kakamega County the event was held at Sisokhe primary school in Navakholo Sub- County.

The Governor, H.E. Wycliffe Oparanya, earlier on commissioned the Sisokhe water supply project before presiding over the event.
The project uses solar energy to pump water, which would ensure sufficient supply of water to the community and in future to every household in the area.
The Governor urged local leaders and stakeholders to team up with agencies that promote conservation of environment and protect water sources for sustainable development.
Assembly speaker, Hon.Morris Buluma said the Assembly is committed to passing sound laws to protect water sources and promote environment conservation.
Present were deputy governor, Prof. Philip Kutima, CEC environment, Mr. John Wangwe, area MPs, Hon. Emmanuel Wangwe (Navakholo), Hon. Benard Shinali (Ikolomani) a host of environmentalists, county officials and several local leaders.
