The committee on Lands, physical planning and urban areas together with the county ministry of Lands held a joint sensitization workshop meant to help them understand land laws at a Kakamega hotel.
The forum also brought together various county stakeholders.
The workshop themed ‘support smooth implementation of the land laws’ was organized by the Institute of Surveyors of Kenya on new land laws.
Gracing the workshop, the County Executive Committee (CECM) member in charge of the ministry, Hon. Alfred Matianyi thanked workshop organizers and assured them maximum commitment and continued partnership so as to ensure that Kakamega residents understand matters land laws.
Mr. Matianyi added that it was important too for people to understand the meaning and role of land survey.
Land Administration Expert, Mr. Ronald Matende took participants through significant changes to Land Act 2012 and outlined further on the management and administration of public land as well as private land, compulsory acquisition and settlement programs among other areas.
Mr. Matende also highlighted issues on the implementation of the Land Value Index Act, 2019 which is defined in the the National land commission Act, 2012.
Other critical areas of interest that were tackled included; significant changes to Land Registration Act, 2012, recognition, protection and registration of community land rights among others.
