The committee on Trade, Industrialization and Tourism had an oversight visit to the newly constructed markets in Malava and Lurambi sub-counties this week.
Among the markets visited were Butali, Malava and Shirere.
Butali market was heaped with garbage for 5 months thus a threat to traders and locals residing around the market.
Traders complained of blocked drainage system at the market as well dirty and poorly maintained washrooms at the market.
In addition,there was no water at the market despite there being drilled water though not operational.
The market management could not give an explanation as to why there was no water at the market when they were tasked to do so.
There was no power at the market due to the outstanding Bills amounting to Ksh. 71,000 owed to the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC).
At Malava market, stalls and shades were not occupied owing to the fact that it was not a market day.
Officers in charge of the market could could not be traced for a comment e since their offices were closed.
The committee will write a report and table it in the Assembly for members’ deliberation.
