The Committee on Environment, Water and Natural Resources has conducted a public hearing on the Kakamega County Rural Water and Sanitation Corporation Bill, 2019.
The public participation forum for residents and stakeholders was held in Kakamega town with diverse representations from Wards.
The proposed law seeks to establish a water and sanitation corporation to provide and manage water and sanitation services in rural areas, implement the mandate of county government in ensuring access to adequate, safe and affordable drinking water and sanitation for all rural areas, support the county government in developing  and rehabilitating rural water infrastructure, develop awareness campaign strategies on sustainable use and management of water resources and sanitation services among other functions .
“Wananchi and other stakeholders have given us their views, proposals and observations on the bill as it is required by law. My committee has captured all of them. Public views are very key in the process of legislation. We will incorporate them in the Bill, write a report and  table it the House.,” Hon. Sakwa Limera, the committee’s chairperson stressed.
