The Speakers to Nyandarua and Machakos County Assemblies, Hon. Ndegwa Wahome and Hon.Florence Mwangangi today paid a courtesy call to Hon. Morris Buluma, the Speaker of Kakamega County Assembly.
The two, together with Hon. Rebah Wabwile, a Member of County Assembly (MCA) from Bungoma County are on a campaign trail for the positions of the Chairperson, Deputy chairperson and Deputy Secretary General respectively for County Assemblies Forum (CAF) Executive Committee (EC) in the forthcoming elections.
Hon. Wahome said their call was meant to share experiences with their host and woe the votes from Kakamega County Assembly.
The Assembly has 5 delegates at CAF, which according to Hon. Buluma, is the highest number among the 47 County Assemblies.
His counterpart from Machakos said there was need to have a strong CAF just like the Council of Governors (CoG) that will articulate issues affecting County Assemblies at the national platform.
Hon. Mwangangi cited the ongoing stalemate between the National Assembly and the Senate on revenue allocation to counties as one of the biting issues that CAF could have taken heads on.
Hon. Wabwire echoed that the need to strengthen CAF further led to the ammendment of the constitution that will see Members of County Assembly incorporated in the EC.
Out of the 7 positions in the EC, 3 will be Speakers while the remaining 4 will go to MCAs,” she said.
The positions to be occupied by Speakers will include; chairperson,  vice-chairperson and that of the treasurer, while MCAs will go for the secretary general, deputy secretary general, organizing secretary and deputy organizing secretary.
According to them, this was arrived at on the basis that top leadership needed people who could persuade for remittance of the forum’s subscriptions while the other 4 positions needed people with a voice to push for the CAF agenda and that politicians were better placed to occupy them.
They urged Kakamega County Assembly leadership to rally for their support.
Hon. Joel Ongoro and Hon. David Ndakwa, leaders of majority and minority respectively, assured the 3 aspirants full support and wished then well.
Also present was the Ag. Clerk of Kakamega County Assembly, CPA Laban Maloba Atemba.
Mr. Atemba challenged the trio to fight for a better position as CAF in matters of national interest once they assume office.
Others present were Members of Nyandarua County Assembly, Hon. Ken Mukira and Hon. Isaac Kung’u.
Hon. Wabwire is the CAF outgoing Ag. Secretary General.
The current chairperson is Hon. Johnson Osoi, speaker of Kajiado County Assembly.
The elections will be held 26th July, 2019.
