Members of the Kakamega County Assembly Committee on Water, Environment and Natural Resources on joined the World to mark the World Water Day by planting trees at Shirulu springs in Shinyalu Sub-County.
This year’s theme is : “Nature for Water exploring Water based solutions to the Water challenges we face in the 21st Century.”
The Committee members and County Executive Committee (CEC) member, Mr. John Wangwe led residents of Shirulu in planting trees to restore water catchment areas.
Nawahimiza wakaazi wote wa Kaunti hii kuhifadhi mazingira haswa vyanzo vya mito na misitu ndiposa tuwe na maji ya kutosha. Maji yana manufaa mengi kwa watu na wanyama vilevile mimea yote.” Mr Wangwe said during his official address to Wananchi gathered at Shirulu.
The CEC said his ministry collaborates with other sectors to map out all forests and water catchment areas in conservation of environment across the County.
Mr. Wangwe said environment protection programs do not only protect fauna and flora but also increase forest cover.
He challenged residents to venture into agricultural activities that enhance conservation of environment.
The Committee’s chairperson, Hon. Swaka Limera said the Assembly is focused on enacting laws that will help County Executive effectively implement environment protection programs.
