Assembly Approves The Nomination Of New County Attorney

The Kakamega County Assembly has approved the nomination of Mrs. Vivianne Mmbaka Komwonyo to the position of the County Attorney.
Members (MCAs) unanimously adopted a report by the Select Committee on Appointments, which recommended her suitability to head the county law office.
The report was tabled and presented by Hon. Sarah Watsula, a member of the committee.
The resolution of the House now gives the Governor, H.E Wycliffe Oparanya the green light to formally appoint Mrs. Komwonyo to the position.
She will be taking over the office, from Mr. Moses Sande who has served for a period of five years. She will serve for a period of six years.
Mrs. Komwonyo, 38, was vetted by the committee on 3rd March 2022.
She joined the County Government of Kakamega in 2019 as the Senior Legal Officer, a position she held up to October 2020 before being appointed in an acting capacity as the County Attorney.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in Law from Moi University, a post graduate diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law, Certified Secretary (KASNEB) and has a wide range of trainings in public management.She has worked with several Law firms.
She is currently pursuing a master of Law in Corporate governance from the University of Nairobi.
“Mr. Speaker Sir, I stand here to support the appointment of Mrs. Komwonyo because she is not only qualified for the job but also a motivation to girl child education. This is a true testimony that the county government of Kakamega is sensitive to gender equality, to promote and empower women to serve in higher offices,” Hon. Kennedy Kilwake, the leader of majority said while making his contribution on the report during the Tuesday afternoon plenary session.
Hon. Violet Ananda said the nominee has a vast experience in matters related to women and children having worked with the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) and so the county law office will be empowered to promote the welfare of all in society.
Hon. Boniface Akosi said Mrs. Komwonyo has sufficient legal experience from both private and public sectors that she will use to blend and make the county scale greater heights of development while Hon. Sarah Watsula said the nominee exhibited high standards of her professionalism when she was vetted.
“She scored highly in all areas we explored during her vetting. Indeed, she is a young lawyer who has great vision for our county.
Already we have seen her good work for the time she has been serving in an acting capacity as the county attorney,”Hon. Watsula said.
She added that the appointment of Mrs. Komwonyo to the position of County Attorney will go a long way in motivating female members of the County Assembly and women fraternity in seeking for more leadership positions in society.
