In line with Vision and Mission of the Assembly, the Public Communication Office implements Media and Public Relations programs and Outreach activities/events of the Assembly in satisfying both Internal and External Publics.
We facilitate Public Communication and Access to Information through Media with the widest Public Outreach in the County and beyond.
These include: Community Radio Stations, Public meetings (Public Participation/Citizen Participation forums), Television Stations, Newspapers and other means of Mass Communication available.
The department also disseminates information through the Assembly’s Online and Social Media platform such as Websites, official Assembly Facebook Page and Twitter Handle to reach the increasing online audience.
The Communication office also spearheads principals of Civic Education (Civic Education) for the Assembly’s programs and activities to empower and enlighten Citizens on Governance and Legislation process, Oversight and Representation as key roles of Members of County Assembly.
However, Three Core roles of a County Assembly (legislation, representation and oversight) are weighted; their effective performance requires open communication between the Assembly and Citizens. This Communication serves arrange of purposes, including education, consultation, consensus-building, legitimization, conflict resolution, representation, and scrutiny.
Through Communication, the department enhances Freedom of expression and Access to Information, Protection of rights of Citizens, Justice to all and Participation of the people.
The Department advocates for an Open Assembly for the People: informing and engaging the public through:
- Working proactively with media to promote the work of the Assembly.
- Educating Citizens on the role and work of the Assembly.
- Building connectivity with the public through Social Media.
- Branding, Marketing and Public events to promote public understanding through direct engagement with the public.
