Members of the County Assembly of Kakamega (MCAs and Staff held an interactive capacity and team building activities,marking the end of the third session of the Assembly’s calendar year. The week-long retreat,which kicked off on Wednesday on teamwork activities focuses on communication, trust-building, problem-solving, adaptability, personal growth and development, emotional intelligence, stress and conflict resolution to enhance effectiveness of both Honourable members and Staff.
The team building getaway also aims at amplifying good leadership, teamwork, workplace dynamics, cohesion and unity among the county legislators and members of the staff. Representing the Speaker,Hon. James Namatsi to officially open the retreat in Kisumu, the deputy Speaker Hon. Benard Shitiabayi thanked the Assembly fraternity for being steadfast on good public service delivery as mandated by the Constitution. Leaders of majority and minority parties, Hon. Phillip Maina and David Ndakwa respectively underscored the need for team work,saying the virtue is key in moving the Assembly to greater heights in performance. On behalf of the County Assembly Service Board, Hon.Boniface Akosi expressed confidence in both MCAs and Staff assuring that the board is committed to supporting Assembly programs and activities.
The Assembly Clerk,Dr. Donald Manyala, said the team building retreat will not only strengthen the bonds and collaboration among team members but also offer a unique opportunity for staff to step away from their daily work routine and engage in activities that promote team cohesion and enhance employee morale. The topics during the retreat are: teamwork and bonding; Emotional Health; Emotional Intelligence; Stress Management and Leadership; Team Building; Work-life Integration. Others include, Family Dynamics and Emotional Wellness; Healthy Workplace Relationships and Productivity; Managing Conflicts at the Workplace; Personal Development and Emotional Health among others. On the outdoor team building activities,MCAs and Staff practically illustrated their abilities and related them to day to day work operations in captivating exciting moments of fun, which took them down memory lane in singing and dancing,and finally bonding. Group work moments was not only fun but also crafted and intertwined with problem solving skills and knowledge,and critical thinking.
The team building facilitators drawn from the public service led by Mr.Elkana Nandwa gave beneficial insights by calling upon the MCAs and Staff to be positive, realistic, friendly, good listeners and analytical at their place of work as they champion for what is good for the Assembly. MCAs are on a two months recess until 11th February 2025, when they will resume for the fourth session.
